SIC (US 1987) : This November, the Van Buren County Community School District will be asking the patrons of our district to vote on the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL). The first thing I want you to know is that this levy has been in place since 1975 and has remained the same throughout its duration($ . 67 per $1, 000).
There are 2 types of PPEL (Physical Plant and Equipment Levy) Board Approved and Voter Approved. The school Board can approve up to ($. 33 per $1 , 000) of valuation and this goes before the Board every 5 years. The Voter approved PPEL can be up to $1. 33 per $1, 000 of taxable valuation and is voted on every 1O years. We are not asking to raise taxes, only asking for you to
approve the same $0. 67 per $1, 000 that you have approved since 1975. This generated $281, 925 for the 19-20 school year (voter approved) and $135, 858 (Board approved).
PPEL monies have helped the district purchase phone systems, accounting software, bus repairs, HVAC repairs, tuckpointing, security and camera systems, a new greenhouse, elevator upgrades, as well as several other important items.
Again this is NOT a tax increase merely an extension of past practice. Thank you for supporting Van Buren County Community School District by getting to the polls and placing your vote.
